Hmmm. Depends on your definition of “religious book.” My first two books were published by Bethany House Publishers, a well-known name in the CBA (Christian Booksellers Association) industry. My next four are being published by Thomas Nelson, the largest CBA Publisher in the world and the sixth-largest publisher of any kind. So, in the sense that the books are written by a Christian (or, if you prefer, a Christ-follower), and published by a Christian publisher, yes, I suppose my books are "religious" books.
But I wouldn’t say my work is any more “religious” than The Da Vinci Code, for instance. (In fact, I would say it’s less so, because, unlike The Da Vinci Code, the main threads of my books don’t have anything to do with church history or doctrine.)
My faith is an integral part of who I am, and so the worlds of my books naturally reflect some of that. But not overtly so. Nowhere in any of my books will you find a big conversion scene, or a thinly-disguised sermon telling you to repent. It’s a novel, not a tract.
I like to call my work "Noir Bizarre," which is exactly what the name suggests: works that mix elements of crime and mystery with the fantastic or supernatural.
