Hmm. Well, there are multiple answers to that question. First, you might be looking in the wrong part of the bookstore. In large bookstores, my stuff is most likely filed under "Religious Fiction." Why am I filed under "Religious Fiction," you ask, when I write about child abductors, spontaneous human combustion, and high-tech Peeping Toms, among other things? Well, that's another issue I suppose, but suffice to say my "Religious Fiction" ain't your father's "Religious Fiction." If you're scared to walk down that aisle of the bookstore, perhaps you could head to an online reseller such as Amazon.
A second possible answer: the book you're looking for is between printings, or between formats. I know the books tend to become scarce toward the end of the print run; I also know many bookstores don't always look for all formats. (From the end of 2007 to the middle of 2008, for instance, I had more than one potential reader email and let me know they had looked for "The Dead Whisper On" at a local bookstore, but were told it wouldn't be available until April/May of 2008. Well. That was the Trade Paperback format...but the hardcover actually released in July of 2007, and was available that whole time. So if a bookstore person tells you "it hasn't been released yet," ask him/her to search for other formats. And don't think I'm only talking about brick-and-mortar stores, Amazon.)
So, the best I can say is: sorry. You might have to look a little harder to find the books occasionally. But if you don't think the search was worth it, let me know; I'll buy back the book from you. Really.
