- An unusual path to publication. I was rejected by more than 180 literary agents before I received my first publishing contract--and that contract came from a publisher I’d never queried. Hey, sometimes miracles do happen. I posted details in an old blog entry, and talked about it in a podcast video.
- A cancer survivor. In 2007, I was diagnosed with Follicular Non-Hodgkins lymphoma, and told it was incurable. I rarely listen to what I’m told, so I researched and received a treatment called radioimmunotherapy (a treatment, interestingly, I didn’t officially qualify for under FDA regulations). Today I’m cancer-free and doing well, and doing my best to help spread the word about Bexxar and radioimmunotherapy--an effective, yet vastly under-used, option for Follicular Non-Hodgkins lymphoma. I tracked my journey through diagnosis and treatment at a separate blog.
- A student of social media and marketing. Before writing fiction, I worked in advertising and marketing for 17 years--most of those as the owner of as successful ad agency. Since launching my fiction career in 2005, I’ve become convinced social media represents a fundamental shift in how businesses and brands should communicate--so much so that I'm launching a consulting service (Social Media Scout) and releasing a free 56-page ebook (Don’t Be the Obnoxious Drunk Guy: A Social Media Primer for Business) on this very topic. (Both the consulting service and the ebook are currently in beta, but since you're here, have a look.)
