A Pregnant Pause While the Book Ships

Even as I speak (okay, even as I write), the finished copies of WAKING LAZARUS are en route to bookstores everywhere, and should start finding their way onto shelves in the next week-ish. This brings the most difficult and awkward part of the publishing process so far: waiting.

It's not waiting to sign a publishing contract. It's not waiting to get editorial feedback. It's not waiting to see cover designs or marketing copy. It's not waiting for ARCs to arrive. It's not waiting to see trade reviews. It's all of those rolled together, and multiplied by ten. It's like leaving for a vacation you've been anxiously planning: you've packed, you've checked in, you've made it through the TSA obstacle course, and now you're sitting at your gate, eager for that boarding call. Every minute seems like ten.

With apologies to Brandilyn Collins, I keep forgetting to breathe.

Looking forward to seeing your book on a nearby shelf! I'm sure it will be surreal to see your own name in the bookstore...surreal and seriously awesome. Good luck getting through this week!

How exciting! I can't wait to read the book! Just think, you can go into a bookstore and see your own book on the shelves. You can also walk up to people who are flipping through it or reading the back and say something like "Hi, that's my book you're reading. If you'd like, I'll autograph it for you after you buy it."

Tony,

While you wait, you should employ the suggestions on Gina Holmes's site. She said top ten but only wrote two. Funny, though.

Or, let's see, you could promote your blog tour that is coming up in mere days. Or what else?

You could spam everyone you know and a bunch you don't, signing as your alter ego, Willie Everlearn. :-)

I know. Promote the SF/Fan tour going on right now.

Seriously, I can only imagine what you're going through. May God give you His peace. May you find contentment even in this limbo state.
